Home side Broadland Tchoukball Club took gold and silver at a Tchoukball tournament at Flegg High School, Martham, this weekend. The host club welcomed teams to the event as part of Flegg's annual week-long Sport and Performing Art Festival. Broadland men won gold with Broadland ladies taking silver.

Broadand Men won all seven of their matches whilst the ladies triumphed in five including a 17-14 thriller against Hampshire Men. There were also impressive performances from Flegg High School teams coached by Head of PE Graeme Young.

The tournament, including trophies and prizes, was sponsored by Tony and Tracy Wilkins of The Lion Pub, West Somerton, Norfolk.

The event marked the beginning of the TAGB's campaign to win £50,000 in the 2008 Norwich Union Community Sports Fund. Supporters can log onto www.joinourteam.com and vote for 'New Year New Sport - Tchoukball' to win funding for community and school Tchoukball in Norfolk.

John Tubby, Chairman of Broadland Tchoukball Club, said:

"Broadland showed their quality against strong competition this weekend. The men's squad put in an excellent and convincing performance and the ladies displayed their courage to overturn a five-point deficit against a strong team from Hampshire.

"Norfolk has a very strong history in Tchoukball. This weekend was a great example of our strength and anyone interested in taking part in our new and exciting sport should get in touch.

"We're particularly grateful to local pub owners Tony and Tracy Wilkins for generously sponsoring the event."

2) Tchoukball, a cross between handball and volleyball, is a fast-paced team sport that can be played all year round - indoors, on grass or on the beach. Teams compete against each other by rebounding the ball off a tightly-sprung trampette at either end of the court. Defenders try to catch the ball before it hits the floor and if they don't, a point is scored. What makes Tchoukball truly unique is that both sides can score at either end of the court. Tchoukball is non-contact and there is no interception.
